During a kitchen remodel, the homeowners chose to keep their original wide pine floors in their antique home rather than replace them. We carefully removed and saved each board so that it could be reinstalled once the renovation was complete. The goal was to preserve the warmth, history, and authenticity that only original pine flooring can offer, while giving it a refreshed finish that would complement the new space.

We tested several stain options directly on the pine to see how each tone interacted with the wood’s natural grain and the lighting in the room. Pine absorbs stain uniquely, so selecting the right finish is all about balancing color, warmth, and contrast. Once the remodel work was complete, we reinstalled the original boards, sanded them smooth, and applied the selected stain and finish.
